Use of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods to improve power plant availability factors

  • 1. Universal Testing Labs., Cedar Grove, NJ

Description

Nondestructive evaluation methods used for inservice inspection can considerably influence plant life and availability: Some aspects of the ISI program are partially if not totally on the critical path of the overall outage; Realistic and reliable results can avoid further exaggerated investigations and repair as well as forced outages; Utilizing modular type manipulators can result in considerable both cost and time savings reducing both man rems and set-up time. Three examples illustrate how ISI-NDE inspection can contribute greatly to plant availability: Steam Generator Tubing; Piping (IGSCC); Reactor Pressure Vessel
