Information of the Commission of the European Communities on the power supply of the EC and the utilization of petroleum for power generation

A report is given on the prospects of energy supply in the European Communities until the year 1990. The construction of nuclear power plants and the construction resp. the conversion of conventional power plants on coal basis are placed into the centre of all efforts concerning the securing of the energy supply of Europe. There is an attempt to achieve a petroleum share of less than 10% for power generation in the long term. Starting from the present nuclear power plant capacity in the member states of the EC the plans of the member states and their prospects are discussed. Some remarks on the financing of nuclear power plants, on the attitude of the public and on nuclear power plant capacity conclude the report. (UA)
