Current status of feasibility studies on commercialized fast breeder reactor system

  • 1. Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Inst., Tokai, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

The purpose of the Feasibility Studies on Commercialized Fast Breeder Reactor Cycle System is to produce concepts of a commercialized nuclear cycle which is cost effective compared to future light water reactors and to specify its utilization scenario. A development program with respect to a new type of fast breeder reactor (FBR) is presented below. We first show the FBR development schedule as a part of the master schedule of the entire study, The scope of the study on FBR development is also described. Next, a fuel type selection approach is considered based on a discussion of the FBR utilization scenario. Finally, the conceptual study of the FBR and method of approach of each coolant type is shown. The major concepts presently being discussed for each coolant type are roughly described. (author)
