Fundamental heat transfer characteristics of a direct contact steam generator for fast breeder reactors

  • 1. Central Research Inst. of Electric Power Industry, Komae, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

As a candidate for an innovative steam generator for fast breeder reactors, heat exchangers with direct contact heat transfer between a low melting point alloy and water were proposed. The evaluation of heat transfer characteristics of heat exchangers with direct contact heat transfer is one of the research subjects for the design and development of the steam generator. In this paper, the effect of the system pressure on heat transfer characteristics and the required degree of superheat of a low melting point alloy above water saturation temperature are evaluated during direct contact heat transfer experiments by injecting water into high temperature wood's metal.
