Description

The dynamical-statistical approach to fragmentation of a hot nucleus in heavy-ion collisions is a popular topic. The author describes the justification for such a hybrid approach and what has been learned from experimental data. In the calculation both master equation and quantum molecular dynamic approaches are considered to describe the early phase i.e., the pre-equilibrium phase of the reaction. The emission from the equilibrium phase is calculated by assuming either a sequential binary decay process or a simultaneous multifragment disintegration. Calculations using these two dynamic-statistical models are compared with exclusive multiplicity data for 36Ar + 238U at 35MeV/A and 36Ar + 197Ar at 35, 50, 80, 110 MeV/A
