The biogas sector in France. Assessment and perspectives of the biogas sector processing agricultural by-products and bio-wastes

Description

In this assessment of the biogas sector in France, the authors first outline that this sector is supported by a favourable regulatory and political dynamics as an answer to energy, waste, agricultural and territorial policies, and notice that the French biogas sector is both complex and heterogeneous, and is thus facing various problems and risks (supply management, upstream storage, methanisation process, energetic valorisation process, digestate management). They outline that, whatever the site profile is, the sector is presently facing operational difficulties which could have a negative impact on its development dynamics. They also outline that the sector is presently weakened by a risk of loss of skills and by increasing difficulties in project financing. They finally outline that actions must be implemented on the medium term to reduce costs while sustainably securing installations
