The transport of radioactive materials
Description
The general characteristics and the main requirements of the regulations for the transport of radioactive materials are reported. The main types of packagings used which have to comply with very severe resistance requirements (impact and fire requirements in particular) are described. Some rules relating to administrative and technical transport terms are recalled and it is shown that an exceptional safety level has been attained
Abstract (French)
L'auteur évoque en premier lieu les caractères généraux et les principales dispositions de la réglementation mise en place pour le transport des matières radioactives. Il décrit ensuite les principaux types d'emballage utilisés, lesquels doivent répondre à des normes très sévères de résistance (aux chocs et au feu notamment). Après avoir rappelé quelques-unes des règles concernant les modalités administratives et techniques du transport, l'auteur s'interroge sur le niveau de sûreté atteint dans ce domaine. Ce niveau, note-t-il en conclusion, a atteint un degré exceptionnel. Mais cela ne signifie pas que les efforts, la vigilance qui ont permis d'atteindre de tels résultats doivent se relâcher, bien au contraire.Additional details
