Linear interaction of gravitational waves

  • 1. Department of Physics, Polytecnic Institute, Str. Sft. Lazar 21, F 4-15, 6600 Jassy, (Romania)

Description

Starting with the linearized Einstein equations written in the same form as Maxwell equations, a damping term is found in the wave equation. The analogy with the propagation of the electromagnetic wave in ohmic media is obvious if we introduce an 'ohmic relation' for gravitational interaction. The possibility of the amplification of gravitational waves by a suitable choice of the velocity field of a dust ('dust with negative viscosity'), for example by the use of the free-electron laser principle, is indicated.
