The role of National Radiation Protection Duty Service in the events involving smuggled nuclear materials in Hungary

Full text: The Hungarian National Radiation Protection Duty Service (NRPDS) was established to handle on-the-spot the accidents and incidents involving radioactive and nuclear materials. The NRPDS was founded by the Ministry of Health more than twenty years ago and the Department for Radiohygiene of the 'Frederic Joliot-Curie' National Research Institute for Radiobiology and Radiohygiene was selected to provide radiation protection professionals for the service. In the last decade a high number of incidents have been managed by the NRPDS in Hungary including more than 6 cases that were related to nuclear materials. In the presentation we would like to overview the most important incidents and summarize the experience gathered during our practice. (author)
