Requirements of the safety concept of new reactors SWR-1000
Description
If the defined goal is to considerably lower the acceptable remaining risk, the only way to achieve such reduction is to accordingly prevent or mitigate the consequences induced by a core meltdown accident and failure of the containment. This means, the containment structures have to be designed so as to guarantee that the most possible amounts of radioactivity released in the core meltdown accident are held back and safely contained in the containment over a prolonged period, so that leakage from the core of radioactivity released by the accident is minimised to the degree possible. Initial safety assessments for the PWR performed from a conservative angle have shown that this goal can be achieved in principle. (orig./CB)
Abstract (German)
Will man eine zusaetzliche wesentliche Verringerung des Restrisikos erreichen, so muss man die Konsequenzen als Folge von Kernschmelzen und Versagen des Containments, absenken; also den Containment-Einschluss der bei einem Kernschmelz-Unfall freiwerdenden Radioaktivitaet verbessern. Mit anderen Worten, die Austrittsleckage von Radioaktivitaet als Folge von Kernschmelzen aus dem Containment muss wesentlich vermindert werden. Erste konservativ orientierte Abschaetzungen fuer den DWR zeigten, dass es grundsaetzlich moeglich ist, dieses Ziel zu erreichen. (orig.)Additional details
