Development of permanent magnet ECR ion source

  • 1. Tokyo Inst. of Technology, Research Laboratory for Nuclear Reactors, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

An all permanent magnet Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) ion source was designed and constructed at the Research laboratory for Nuclear Reactors, Tokyo Institute of Technology. The source has iron in a plasma chamber to enhance mirror field strength. Therefore, the strength of gas injection side is 9 kG and extraction is 7 kG. The extracted beam current of Ar6+ is 2.7 μA with 12.2 GHz and maximum charge state is Ar7+. To produce more multi-charged ions, we are going to modify the ECR ion source in the near future.
