Mixed uranium and plutonium mass transfer between 3.0m nitric acid and 20% tributylphosphate in odourless kerosene

Description
Measurement of mass transfer rate coefficients for the mixed system uranyl and plutonium (IV) nitrates/20% tributyl phosphate in odourless kerosene/nitric acid is described. Only aqueous phase to organic phase transfer was investigated. Uranium mass transfer and plutonium mass transfer behaviour were both studied over a range of uranyl nitrate/plutonium (IV) nitrate concentrations. For both uranyl nitrate and plutonium (IV) nitrate, no dependence upon uranyl and plutonium (IV) concentration was found over the ranges studied. (author)
