Neutron beam design for both medical BNCT and industrial NRG using small accelerators

  • 1. Musashi Institute of Technology, Atomic Energy Research Laboratory, Kawasaki, Kanagawa (Japan)

Description

Neutron beam designs were studied for both accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) and low intensity neutron radiography (NRG). Monte Carlo calculations indicated that with a suitable neutron filter arrangement epithermal neutron beam attaining 8 x 108 ncm-2s-1 applicable to BNCT could be obtainable using both 7Li or 9Be targets and 10 mA proton beam. Thermal neutron beam applicable to low intensity NRG were also designed with commercial based D-T and D-D neutron sources. (author)
