Description

This paper deals with the Italian position on Low Level Waste (L. L. W) management. L. L. W. are classified as 2nd category waste coherently with the Technical Guide No. 26 (T. G.) issued by ENEA-DISP (1). The T. G. identifies and specifies the basic criteria and requirements for an appropriate waste management policy. An overview of the main waste treatments conducted at nuclear power plants, national research centres and the future trends are described. A final evaluation of the activities performed and the current L. L. W. inventory is also shown
