Target for spallation neutron sources

Description

The target material is arranged at the circumference of a rotating wheel with a diameter of about 2,5 m. The wheel is permanently cooled by water. The interior of the wheel is shielded against the vacuum of the accelerator channel region by means of a jacket. This jacket of Al, Zr or Ti has the effect of an inlet window for the proton beam. The target itself can be cooled by means of involute-shaped coolant ducts. (orig./HP)
