Comparison between Cerenkov counting and other counting techniques for beta and gamma emitting radionuclide solutions
Description
Cerenkov counting technique of beta and gamma emitting radionuclides, in transparent solutions, is compared with the traditional commonly known detection techniques. The parameters taken into account in this comparison are: detection efficiency, absolute sensitivity, concentration sensitivity and statistical reproducibility. Cerenkov counting is found advantageous over other competing techniques in giving better values of these parameters, in certain energy bands. However, its simplicity, low cost of preparation, the absence of any influence of chemical quenching and reproducibility of counting give this technique additional merits over other conventional counting give.8 fig
