Description
The analysis of field observational data and results of modeling are presented on groundwater and rock media contamination with radionuclides (137 Cs and 90 Sr) of Chernobyl origin in the region of major water intakes serving for potable water supply of Kiev industrial agglomeration. The data obtained enable to accept the possibility of accumulating in the geological rock medium of upper water-bearing system with down going infiltration flow a significant part of initial surface fallout contamination. This states in favor of the concept of anomalously fast migration pathways, but from the other hand, indicates the important role of geological rock media as a powerful protection buffer of the geosphere. Further studying of the character and pathways of groundwater radioactive contamination requires more precise information about the concentration of radionuclides in ground water and rocks, and also detailed ragging of the territory under studying, based on the data of hydrodynamic regime modeling and establishing of hydrogeological monitoring
