Moessbauer study of the spin-reorientational transition in a surface layer and the bulk of Fe3BO6

  • 1. AN SSSR, Leningrad (USSR). Fiziko-Tekhnicheskij Inst.

Description

Moessbauer spectra obtained in crystal volume (method of nuclear gamma-resonance spectroscopy) in the surface layer of 6-8 μm thickness (method of Moessbauer spectroscopy for X-ray characteristic radiation) and in the surface layer of 1000 A thickness (method of conversion electron Moessbauer spectroscopy) were investigated in the region of spin-reorientation phase transition (415 K) in Fe3BO6 antiferromagnet with weak ferromagnetic moment. Measurements were conducted on (100) facet. It was revealed that spin reorientation in the surface layer and in the crystal volume proceeded as first-order phase transition with formation of intermediate state. Spin reorientation in the surface layer was observed at the same temperature as spin reorientation in crystal volume
