Hexaiodidetetrasulfide of hexamolybdenum

  • 1. Moskovskij Inst. Tonkoj Khimicheskoj Tekhnologii (USSR)

Description

Hexamolybdenum hexaiodidetetrasulfide phase MO6S4I6 was produced by the synthesis from elements in stoichiometric quantities in an evacuated quartz ampule at 900-1000 deg C for 48 h. Phase individuality was proved by chemical and X-ray phase analyses. MO6S4I6 decomposes in vacuum in the same way as other molybdenum thioiodides: into Mo2S3, molybdenum and iodine. Mo6S4I6 does not interact with iodine. Mo6S4I6 interacts with sulfur depending on reagent ratios and temperature and gives MoS2, Mo6S6I2 and Mo4S4I4
