Description

The general static plane-symmetric solution with mirror symmetry of the Einstein-Maxwell equations is written down, and the constants of integration are determined by means of Taub's distribution formalism, or equivalently by Israel's geometric formalism for singular layers, in terms of the charge density, mass density and pressure of the material plate at the symmetry plane of the spacetime described by the solution. It is pointed out that no negative mass needs to be introduced according to the physical interpretation of the solution here presented. A recently discussed conflict appearing in the weak-field approximation is here resolved in a new and physically satisfying way
