Disposal of residues according paragraph 97 StrlSchV - Efficient self control and handling of applications for release from regulatory control

To control residues according to paragraph 97 of the German Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV), the ordinance earmarks a self - control of involved companies in the case of very low specific activities, an authorisation of release from regulatory control to disposal in the case of higher specific activities and a balancing of disposed activities in the case of large amounts. The realisation of this regulation requires the exchange of information between owners of residues, disposing companies and authorities. In order to make this information available and controllable in an efficient way, a well structured system of documents was developed analogue to an existing system in waste management. Practical experiences with this system are discussed. (orig.)
