Tracking with micro-strip gas chambers

  • 1. Rossijskaya Akademiya Nauk, Novosibirsk (Russian Federation). Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

Micro-strip gas chambers (MSGC) have attracted a lot of attention since their introduction by Oed due to many promising features: good position resolution, high rate capability and low cost. Here we review present approaches of building such a detector and solving the problems of stable high rate operation and ageing due to gas polymerisation. Some features necessary for use in high energy physics are discussed such as spatial resolution for inclined tracks and performance in a high magnetic field. (orig.)
