A study of stainless steel welding by radiography
Description
Radiography is the nondestructive inspection of materials by using the fundamentals of absorption of radiation of the materials being inspected. The radiation which is not absorbed will be projected on the screen. The study of stainless steel welding involves the use of four stainless steel welding rods namely: numbers 308, 308R, 347 and 608, welded to austenitic stainless steel of varying thicknesses. The welding rods and austenitic stainless steel can be easily obtained from a local market. After welding test pieces is completed, inspection of the material by radiography will show many types of defects such as porosity, incomplete root penetration and slag inclusion. The study of stainless steel welding show that welding rod no. 608 gives the best result followed by no. 308R and no. 347 both of which are closely exceptable, while no. 308 is the least effective of the four
