Die Planungsarbeiten für die Prototypanlage wurden vorwiegend auf die Kombination von HKV und WKV konzentriert- Schwerpunkte waren die Festlegung eines geeigneten Korngrößenbereiches der einzusetzenden Kohle, die Technologie des FeststoffÜbergangs der beiden Stufen und die Untersuchung alternativer Technologien zur Beseitigung der Backneigung von Kohlen. In Zusammenarbeit mit den Projektpartnern wurden Eckdaten für die weitere Detaillierung erarbeitet. Der Liner des Gasgenerators mit beidseitigem Druckausgleich wurde konzipiert und bereits in hohem Maße detailliert. Die zu lösende Problemstellung liegt in der dreidimensionalen Kompensation der Wärmedehnung. Besondere Schwierigkeiten traten im Bereich der Stutzendurchführungen auf, die zweifach kompensiert und zusätzlich isoliert sein müssen.
