HIP solution for nuclear waste storage

Creators

Description

The use of hot isostatic pressing for containment and storage of nuclear waste, under development in Sweden, is very briefly outlined. Three possible alternative techniques associated with different stages of the fuel cycle are referred to. The compacting process involves pressure sintering of alumina powder or, for high level liquid waste, titanium oxide powder, into a capsule, at very high temperatures and pressures. (U.K.)
