Separation of nitrogen from air by selective adsorption combined with the purification chemical procedure

Description

The N2/O2 separation from air is one of the most important applications of the PSA technology. The process that produces N2 is based on O2 adsorption on selective kinetic adsorbents as carbon-molecular sieves (CMS), for instance. In this work data are presented, obtained in producing N2 from air by using CMS adsorbents prepared with our own technology. In the utilized range of flow rates, 10 Nl/h - 100 Nl/h, the N2 obtained has concentrations within 94.56 % to 96.95 % vol. The experimental results shown that the gas flow rate, namely the flow speed through adsorption, affects significantly the production and the quality of the obtained N2. The residual oxygen has been removed through procedures utilizing a reactant oxygen reducer (metallic copper), so that the final N2 had a high purity, higher than 99.9 % vol
