Accelerator augmentation programme at Nuclear Science Centre
Description
This paper reviews the progress made in the heavy ion superconducting linac booster project for the Nuclear Science Centre Pelletron accelerator. Prototypes of the accelerating structure have been fabricated at Argonne National Laboratory and have undergone several diagnostic tests. Preliminary designs for the buncher and linac cryostats have been made. The closed cycle helium and nitrogen reliquefier system components are in the process of installation. Several prototypes of radio frequency (rf) electronics and control modules have been fabricated and tested. The novel aspects of the system and the associated technical challenges are presented.
