Magnetic fields in AM Her systems: a possible field for 1E1048.5 + 5241 (EK UMa) from cyclotron humps
Description
We have detected cyclotron humps in the spectrum of the 19th mag AM Her system 1E1048.5 + 5241 at certain phases. We used two methods of determining the magnetic field: these, with information from the spectral slope, both yield a magnetic field strength of 47 MG. The temperature in the emitting region is less well determined but is likely to be higher than 10 keV. (author)
