Separation of U(VI) from carbonate solutions by ion flotation
Description
Abstract The ability of uranyl ions to form highly charged anionic complexes with carbonate or bicarbonate anions furnishes the basis of its removal from carbonate media by cationic collectors using the ion flotation technique. In this investigation cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide was used as collector. The extent of removal depends on many factors and removals approaching 100% could be achieved under certain controlled conditions. The factors that can affect the flotation process, viz. gas flow rate and concentrations of collector, uranium and carbonate were investigated and the best conditions were selected.
