The Seabrook PRA viewed from three perspectives

  • 1. Pickard, Lowe and Garrick, Inc., 2260 University Drive, Newport Beach, CA (USA)

Description

The Seabrook Station Probabilistic Safety Assessment (SSPSA) was performed by the independent engineering consulting firm of Pickard, Lowe and Garrick, Inc., and several subcontractors. The subcontractors included Structural Mechanics Associates, Inc. (seismic resistance of components and structures, containment pressure capacity); Dames and Moore (seismic hazard analysis); Westinghouse Electric Corporation (computer simulation of accident sequences and releases); Fauske and Associates, Inc. (physical processes of accidents); Mesomet, Inc. (meteorological modeling); and Digital Graphics, Inc. (data processing). In this paper, the SSPSA is viewed from three perspectives. First, some key results are presented from the perspective of the PRA consultant. This is followed by utility perspectives on the requirements to support the PRA and on using the completed PRA over the longer term in risk management
