Ottawa's renewed commitment to nuclear energy includes a revitalized AECL

In March 1990 the Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources announced a renewed commitment by the federal government to sustaining nuclear energy as an option for Canada. Negotiations will continue for the sale of a prototype CANDU-3 reactor to New Brunswick. Ontario Hydro has agreed to increase its contribution to AECL Research and development by approximately $30 million annually over the next 7 year (from 1990). Quebec and New Brunswick have also made commitments
