Human factors in the nuclear industry

This critical review focuses on the relatively recent emphasis afforded the human factors discipline in the commercial nuclear power industry. The status of industry's recognition of needs and the level of understanding exhibited with regard to available technological capabilities, manpower resources and existing and potential human factors applications within the industry's regulatory framework, are assessed. Significant achievements and unresolved problems are discussed. Industry changes as well as its' reluctance to change are explored using views from human factors professionals, industry's opportunists, regulators, utilities, vendors, and the public-at-large. Information is presented in historical perspective with emphasis on current issues so that you may judge the status of activities, opportunities and risks of human factors in the nuclear industry
