Description
This systems engineering study has developed several conclusions that will aid the US Department of Energy in managing the single-shell tank waste. These conclusions include recommended alternatives for closure, characterization requirements, closure schedule, development requirements, facility requirements, and integration of double-shell tank and single-shell tank waste processing. The preferred alternative for single-shell tank closure will be determined in the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement based on further evaluation of recommended alternatives. This report provides appendices on the following information: occupational safety, environmental releases, in-situ treatment of empty tanks, soil and past practice units, in place treatment and disposal, removal of empty tanks, leaks, and practice units, treatment and disposal of soil and debris wastes, cost estimates, and correspondence
