Extraction of GeV photons with laser beam at SPring-8

  • 1. Osaka Univ., Ibaraki (Japan). Research Center for Nuclear Physics

Description

We review a plan for constructing a facility to extract photons in GeV region by injecting a laser beam on electrons stored in the storage ring of SPring-8. Energy of photons may reach to 2 to 3 GeV depending on the laser wavelength. The total number of photons is limited to 107/sec by a condition that this facility does not affect major users who are using SPring-8 as a synchrotron radiation source. Photons are tagged for energies and these produced in the maximum energy region can be highly polarized. (author)
