Description
This sets out in simple form the basic facts upon which the working of a nuclear reactor depends. The reader is taken through the logical steps which lead to the choice of fuels, moderators, and coolants for reactors that have reached the stage of commercial operation. Differences between reactor types are explained and, in particular, the way in which fast-neutron reactors utilize the abundant fuel 238U is described. (author)
