Clinical study for lower irradiation of patient dose in digital subtraction angiography

Description

We reported previously our method of intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography (IADSA), using lower exposure rate and concentrated contrast medium 1.5 times as the usual one. This time, we evaluated image quality and side effects analyzing 30 clinical cases to whom our way of IADSA was applied. In all cases examined, the image quality was equivalent to routinely obtained images, including that in the venous phase and tumor stain, which were regarded as possibly worsening aspects of the method in our previous report. There were slightly increased incidence of a feeling of heat and pain in IADSA of extremity arteries. However, motion artifacts and the other side effects were within the tolerable level. Our method of IADSA is believed to be simple and very efficacious in reducing irradiation of patient dose. In this method, It is possible to lower irradiation of patient dose in excess of 50%.
