Accuracy of conversion factors for ICRU dosimetric quantities

Description

For practical application of the dose equivalent quantities of ICRU 39, it is necessary to have energy-dependent conversion factors. Several evaluated sets of such factors have been published and different values have been adopted by various international and national organisations. In February, 1988, an ICRU Working Group met to assess the current status of these various sets of factors. This paper outlines some of the discussions and conclusions of the Working Group. Calculated photon conversion factors for H*(10) generally agree to about 5% and two evaluated sets agree to about 2%. Neutron factors are considerably less accurate but different sets appear to agree within the estimated uncertainties and the evaluated sets are also consistent. There is a lack of beta ray conversion factors for H'(0.07) and a need for such data. (author)
