Method of removing cobalt ions from coolants
Description
Purpose: To remove cobalt ions without cooling reactor coolants. Method: Fibrous potassium titanate (K2O · nTiO2; n = 1 - 5) are prepared from molten products of potassium titanate compounds comprising TiO2, K2O and K2MoO4, from which potassium is removed to obtain titania hydrate (TiO2 · nH2O; n = 0.5 - 2). The titania hydrate is used instead of ion exchange resins. Since the ion exchange capacity of the titania hydrate exhibits satisfactory performance under high temperature and high pressure (lower that 500 deg C, 500 atm), it is no more necessary to cool the coolants below 70 deg C as in the conventional ion exchange resins.
