Radiative layer control experiments within an ergodized edge zone in Tore supra

Description

Experiments on strong radiative layers have been undertaken in Tore supra. They have been performed in ohmic and auxiliary heated (by means of ion cyclotron resonant waves) plasmas. The high radiation level has been triggered by either deuterium or gaseous (generally neon) impurity injection. The ergodic divertor activation has provided an enhanced radiated fraction compared to the limiter case. Radiated power could be as high as 5.5 MW, corresponding to about 80% of the total injected for a bulk neon concentration lower than 1%. (authors). 14 refs., 4 figs
