Plasma instabilities and nonlinear effects
Description
This introduction presents the basic equations and the dispersion relations and analyzes the term 'instability'. Instabilities that originate from a non-Maxwellian type velocity distribution are microinstabilities. Instabilities due to coordinate space nonequilibrium are macroinstabilities. Drift wave instabilities, the Rayleigh-Taylor instability, the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, and current pinch instabilities are treated. The fourth chapter introduces to nonlinear effects which appears as a consequence of the various plasma instabilities discussed above: in particular those which result from microinstabilities. A summary of necessary conditions of plasma instabilities is added. The second chapter discusses microinstabilities such as a) instabilities due to two humped velocity distributions, b) instabilities due to anisotropic velocity distributions, c) hydromagnetic instabilities, and d) instabilities in partially ionized plasmas. Die Einfuehrung stellt die wichtigsten Gleichungen und die Dispersionsverhaeltnisse vor und analysiert den Begriff 'Instabilitaet'. Instabilitaeten, die aus einer nicht-Maxwell'schen Geschwindigkeitsverteilung entstehen, bezeichnet man als Mikroinstabilitaeten. Das zweite Kapitel behandelt Mikroinstabilitaeten wie z.B. a) Instabilitaeten infolge von zwei konzentrierten Geschwindigkeitsverteilungen, b) Instabilitaeten infolge von anisotropen Geschwindigkeitsverteilungen, c) hydromagnetische Instabilitaeten, und d) Instabilitaeten im teilweise ionisierten Plasma. Instabilitaeten infolge eines Nichtgleichgewichts im Koordinatenraum sind Makroinstabilitaeten. Behandelt werden Driftwelleninstabilitaeten, die Rayleigh-Taylor-Instabilitaet und Strompinchinstabilitaeten. Das vierte Kapitel behandelt nichtlineare Effekte, die infolge der zuvor diskutierten Plasmainstabilitaeten auftreten koennen, insbesondere Effekte infolge von Mikroinstabilitaeten. Abschliessend folgt eine Zusammenfassung der notwendigen Bedingungen fuer Plasmainstabilitaeten. (GG/AK)Additional details
