Description
The Hall coefficient RH, resistivity, and magnetoresistance have been measured in both superconducting polycrystalline samples of Nd1.85-xCaxCe0.15CuO4-δ and nonsuperconducting samples of Nd2-xCaxCuO4+δ (x≤0.3). Addition of Ca does not destroy the superconductivity, but dramatically changes the RH and eventually causes a change in sign of RH from negative to positive. The hole state in the CuO2 plane arises from the lattice distortion induced by Ca doping, which leads to the O p band going through the Fermi level. The negative magnetoresistance is closely related to the localization of conducting carriers. copyright 1996 The American Physical Society
