Luminescence and nonlinear optical properties of Me-CdI2 (Me = Ag, Au) heterostructures

Description
Spectral and temperature characteristics of luminescence and generation of the second harmonics of Me-CdI2 heterostructures formed in the process of sputtering metallic films of silver and gold on basic plates of cadmium iodide laminated crystal were studied. Appearance of new luminescence bands of heterostructures in the long-wave range of the spectrum (λmax 650-700 nm), as well as the change in their nonlinear optical properties, are explained in the framework of the model envisaging diffusion of metal ions into CdI2 lattice and their localization in octahedral (tetrahedral) voids of the van-der-waal slits of laminated crystals and appearance of chemical bond between metal atoms and iodine lattice atoms, as well. 7 refs.; 3 figs
