Description
Transport and reactive properties of a muon swarm in deuterium gas in an electrostatic field are analyzed by solving Boltzmann's equation over a wide range of E/n0 (ratio of the applied electric field to the gas number density). We find that both the muon-capture rate and the recoil energy of the deuterium molecule after muon capture show significant variation with E/n0. The implications for muon-catalyzed-fusion research are outlined. Muon transport properties are given as functions of E/n0
