Preference of 90Sr betacath radiation system over mechanically afterload 192Ir system in endovascular brachytherapy

  • 1. IRCH, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (India)

Description

Restenosis of a coronary artery after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty is overcome by endovascular brachytherapy. The ideal source would be single, infinitely small, encapsulated, mono-energetic, high specific activity, emitting low energy radiation to spare the normal tissues. A large number of isotopes and treatment devices are currently being evaluated worldwide. The practical advantages and disadvantages while using 90Sr betacath radiation system and mechanically afterloaded 192Ir system were studied
