Targetry for the routine bombardment of solid targets at the National Accelerator Centre

  • 1. National Accelerator Centre, Faure (South Africa)

Description

Routine radioisotope production at the National Accelerator Centre (NAC) is based on the utilization of a high-intensity (up to 100 μA) 66 MeV proton beam. For this purpose a solid target design was adopted and standardized multi-purpose target holders as well as suitable target preparation techniques were developed. The new targetry has now been in constant use for almost 3 years. (author) 7 figs., 1 tab., 3 refs
