The errors of the radioactive release source term recovery

  • 1. Nuclear Safety Inst., Moscow (Russian Federation). Division of Radiological Safety and Risk

Description

A procedure is developed for the evaluation of the statistical estimators and the confidence regions of the integral activity, height of the source, and deposition velocity of mononuclide radioactive releases in atmosphere. The technique is adapted to a simple Gaussian plume model, and it can be considered as the starting point for an application to a more complex model. Fluctuations of the surface contamination density in points of measurement are supposed to be statically independent and to be described in terms of lognormal distribution. Sensitivity of the estimators values to the data variation is investigated. A verification of the method by the example of simulated radioactive accident and the accident in South Ural (1957) is carried out
