Hydrogen molecule ion in strong magnetic field
Description
A variational principle is used to determine the binding energy and the fundamental vibrational frequency of H₂⁺ in the presence of magnetic fields of strengths found in some neutron stars. It is shown that for B∼10¹² G the vibrational frequency lies in the ultraviolet or soft-x-ray part of the spectrum.
