Radiolysis of cholesteric and cholestanic esters in CCl4 solutions

G-values for production of CHCl3, C2Cl6 and HCl in the radiolysis of CCl4 solutions of cholesteryl and cholestanyl esters were measured as a function of concentration and temperature. It was found that the cholesterol skeleton plays an important role in the radiolysis. The rate constants and Arrhenius parameters for hydrogen abstraction by CCl3 radical were calculated. The G-value for 'non radical' C2Cl6 was found to be 0.42 +- 0.04 independent of temperature in the range of 0 to 600C. (author)
