Radiation control and exposure reduction measures in the regular inspection of PWR power plants

  • 1. Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., Osaka (Japan)

Description

In the Kansai Electric Power Company, Incorporated, three PWR power plants with aggregate capacity of 1666 MW in the Mihama Power Station and two of 1652 MW capacity in the Takahama Power Station are in operation; in the Oi Power Station, one PWR power plant of 1175 MW capacity is under construction. The percentage of nuclear power generation in the Kansai Electric Power Co. is currently about 17% (thermal 60%, hydraulic 23%). Radiation control and exposure reduction measures taken in the regular inspections of the nuclear power plants are described: (a) the overall management in the Kansai Electric Power Co.; (b) the radiation control system in the earlier and current regular inspections; (c) the radiation exposure in the regular inspections; (d) the exposure reduction measures using television and automated devices in such works as the inspection of the reactor vessels, and the steam generators.
