Calculation of the quadrupole moments for the nuclei of the rare-earth and intermediate regions

Description

The quadrupole moments of 36 even-even highly deformed isotopes of Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, Hf, W are calculated by means of the Hartree-Fock method with the Skyrme forces. The difference between the calculated quadrupole moments with the experimental data is no more than 10%. It is shown that change of the self-consistent field due to addition of neutrons to the nucleus results in an increase of the quadrupole moments for Z=64-68 and in a decrease of the moments at Z=72-74. A more complicated dependence of the deformation on the neutron number is observed for the isotopes with Z=70. Other characteristics of the nuclei, such as the total energy, the neutron and proton separation energies, the r.m.s. radius, are analyzed and compared with the experiment
